WonkaChat ships with dozens of ready-to-use connectors, but you can also add your own custom MCP connector to reach any tool that exposes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, whether it’s an internal system or a provider not yet in the catalog.
Adding custom connectors is an admin-level capability. If you don’t see an “Add MCP Tool” button on the Connectors page, your organization hasn’t enabled this feature for your role.

Before You Start

You Need an MCP Server

Custom connectors point to an existing MCP server endpoint. WonkaChat doesn’t build the server for you, it connects to one that’s already running.

Admin Access Required

Creating and editing custom connectors is controlled by an organization-level permission. Ask your admin if the option isn’t available to you.
Custom connectors are not verified by Wonka AI. You are responsible for trusting the endpoint you connect to and reviewing what data and actions it exposes before enabling it for yourself or your team.

Adding a Custom Connector

Open the Connectors page

Go to Customize → Connectors, then click “Add MCP Tool”.

Fill in the basics

  • Name: a short, recognizable label (letters, numbers, and spaces only)
  • Description (optional): what the connector does, shown to anyone browsing the catalog
  • Icon (optional): upload an image to help identify the connector at a glance

Set the connection details

  • Connector URL: the address of the MCP server (for example https://mcp.example.com)
  • Transport type: choose Streamable HTTP or SSE, depending on what the server supports

Choose authentication

Pick the authentication method the MCP server requires:
Use this for internal or public MCP servers that don’t require credentials.

Add custom headers (optional)

If the MCP server needs extra headers beyond the authorization header (for example a tenant ID or API version), add them as name/value pairs. There’s a limit on how many you can add per connector.

Confirm and create

Check “I trust this application” to confirm you understand the connector isn’t verified by Wonka AI, then click “Create”.
Once created, the connector appears alongside built-in connectors on the Connectors page. Connect and enable it the same way you would any other connector.

Editing and Removing Custom Connectors

  • Edit: click a connector you created to update its URL, authentication, or headers.
  • Delete: deleting a custom connector is restricted to organization admins.
  • Custom connectors can be tagged and shared with specific teammates the same way as any other resource in WonkaChat, if your organization has sharing enabled.

Controlling Access

Admins decide which custom (and built-in) connectors are available to which users or groups through tool policies. Use this to limit a sensitive internal connector to the team that owns it, for example, rather than exposing it organization-wide.
