A Skill is a reusable set of instructions — writing guidelines, a process to follow, brand rules — that an agent can apply automatically when it’s relevant, or that you can invoke yourself in any chat. Think of it as a focused capability you teach once and reuse everywhere.
Skills is an optional organization feature. If you don’t see Skills under Customize in your sidebar, ask your administrator.

Creating a Skill

1

Open Skills

In the sidebar, expand Customize, then select Skills.
2

Start a new skill

Click Create Skill.
3

Describe it

Give it a Name (lowercase letters, digits, and dashes only, e.g. brand-guidelines) and a Description. Be specific about when this skill should apply — the description is what an agent uses to decide whether it’s relevant.
4

Write the instructions

In Instructions, write what the skill should do in markdown.

Uploading a Skill

If you already have a skill written elsewhere, you can import it instead of writing it from scratch:
1

Open the upload dialog

In Skills, choose Upload a skill.
2

Provide the file

Upload a single .md file, or a .zip / .skill archive. A .zip or .skill file must include a SKILL.md file; a folder upload is packaged automatically and must also include one at its root (or in a single subfolder).
Skill imports are limited in size (your administrator sets the exact limit, 50 MB by default). Oversized files are rejected before upload.

Auto-Applied vs. Manually Invoked Skills

Each skill has an Invocation Mode:

Auto

The skill is automatically applied by the agent when relevant to the conversation.

Manual

The skill is only used when you explicitly invoke it.

Both

The skill can trigger automatically, or be invoked manually.
To invoke a skill manually, type $ in the message box to open the skill picker, then select the skill you want to use for that message.
You can turn any skill on or off for yourself without editing it — use the toggle next to a skill in the list to control whether it’s active.

Sharing Skills

Skills can be shared the same way agents and prompts are:
  • Viewer — can view and use the skill, but not edit it
  • Editor — can view and edit the skill
  • Owner — full control, including sharing and deletion
Share a skill with specific people, a group, or (if your administrator allows it) everyone in your organization.
Your administrator can restrict who is allowed to create or share skills at the organization level.
